CERRE Executive Seminar: Smart Consumers in the Internet of Energy

ProvincieBrabant Flamand (VBR)

The results of CERRE’s research project ‘Smart Consumers in the Internet of Energy: Local Trading with Distributed Energy Resources’ will be presented and debated at this Executive Seminar. The Commission’s 2016 Clean Energy Package aims at creating new market rules that place final consumers at the heart of the clean energy transition. ‘Smart consumers’ are energy-efficient consumers who can optimally control their energy resources, such as demand response, solar photovoltaics, storage, electric vehicles, heating appliances, etc. Regulators will have to revisit previous thinking on energy retail markets and networks to adapt to these new market realities. CERRE researchers have analysed electricity markets involving different degrees of consumer engagement.
The CERRE report ‘Smart Consumers in the Internet of Energy: Local Trading with Distributed Energy Resources’ presents a range of business models and regulatory frameworks which can support such engagement and promote further evolution in market activities. It looks at emerging regulatory challenges stemming from the need to encourage changes in consumers’ behaviour so that they can take full advantage of the opportunities offered by new technological and market access opportunities. Join key actors from the sector, including representatives of firms active in the generation, transmission and distribution of energy, tech companies, regulatory authorities, policy-makers and academic experts, for an afternoon of exciting discussions.
